In 1947, Dale E. Richard, Sr. was discharged from the military in Texas. He bought a motorcycle and rode the open road home to Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania. That same year, he built his first garage and also built his own tow truck. A few years later, he opened his first gas station.
D.E. Richard Garage has occupied several different locations in Fredericksburg since then. In 1965, Dale purchased Grimes Stadium at the East end of Fredericksburg. Dale built and promoted the Fredericksburg Speedway for 7 years, which is now the location of D.E. Richard Garage, Inc.
Since 1977, the garage has been providing gas, towing and auto repairs to the Northern Lebanon and Eastern Berks counties. In 1991, a 4-bay car and truck wash was built, providing a 24-hour service to the community.
In 1999, the Speedway Mart was selling groceries, providing full and self-serve gasoline and heating oil. The Speedway Mart employs 5 full-time and 6 part-time employees. They sell used cars and automotive parts. Storage units are also available for rent.
